                   Mobile Acres

The dictionary definition for a brat reads: an ill behaved child. That is not the kind of brats we are. "Brats" is also the term for children in general. Military brats are children of people in the military services. Robin and her best friend Tawana are twelve-years old and live in a trailer park. It is the beginning of summer vacation and they are hoping that THIS will be an exciting summer. Robin tells us about the happenings as we go with her through their summer. The first thing that happens is meeting Gloris, their brand new neighbor, and her brothers, six-year old twins. Gloria is a budding psychic...so naturally, she is exciting about meeting one of the trailer park residents who is also a psychic. She finds the meeting holds more than she expects. Everyday events can sometimes turn out quite unexpectedly.

Mobile Acres

Life in Mobile Acres is not what it might first appear from behind the uniform rows of trailers with their neatly organized grounds and lovely southern trees. The journey into Mobile Acres begins with the Pierce family relocating to the east coast and into the mobile home village. Within the pages, we will meet the residents of fifteen of the forty-eight lots, and the manager, Tony Attwood. Within each resident's history, we will learn how each of these individuals come to be in Mobile Acres, a gentle mobile home park for single wide trailers, located just on the edge of the small southeastern coastal town of Shallotte, NC. We meet a variety of characters, building from one to another, relating in some way; tagging to another. Unknown to all, a tragedy is developing in their midst, in the form of a pedophile. This tragedy will ultimately bring the residents of this small village of mobile homes closer to one another. Life in Mobile Acres is like life in any given community, people live their lives where they are, some staying a short while, some settling permanently, some moving on.

About the Author
Author Joyce M. Jacobs is an artist and writer who has done freelance work over the years which span the raising of five children. Joyce was born in Harrisonville, Missouri, raised in Colorado, and now resides in Shallotte, North Carolina. Moving to Colorado at the age of ten, her family lived in a trailer park for two years before moving up into the mountains. The memories of the many diverse peoples who passed through that two year experience of trailer park living, initiated a continuing curosity of how different people come to be where they are, at any given point in their lives. It was this wondering that stirred the idea for this novel. And, of course, there are many more lots to consider in Mobile Acres.
